Wind energy in Ireland is set for further expansion following the extension of the BES scheme for a further five years in this week’s Budget, according to the Irish Wind Energy Association (IWEA).

The IWEA has welcomed the Budget provisions saying that the BES tax incentive is of particular importance to small and medium sized wind energy projects.

“This I something IWEA has been seeking and we welcome the fact that Minister Cowen has included this provision in his Budget”, said Mr Tim Cowhig, IWEA Chairman, who added that the move would encourage new and expanded wind energy developments around the country.
