Corporate PPA Workshop

05 Jul 2018

The Irish Wind Energy Association hosted a renewables workshop on Corporate PPA’s with the Department of Communications, Climate Action and the Environment (DCCAE) on the 28th June 2018 in Dublin. The slides from the workshop are linked below.

A Corporate PPA is where a corporate buyer and a renewable generator enter into a long-term Power Purchase Agreement at a fixed price, with the guarantee of origin or “green benefit” transferring to the corporate buyer. This will allow for a fixed price guarantee for a project including the long-term price certainty it requires for the securing of finance for development. As many large energy consumers are dedicating an increasing focus to being environmentally friendly, whilst also attempting to reduce energy costs, Corporate PPA’s will aid corporates access to green power for its facilities whilst delivering control over the risk of price fluctuation in wholesale electricity on its demand.

The workshop was very well attended by IWEA members and other key stakeholders and highlighted the various counterparties perspectives and key concerns in relation to Corporate PPA’s in Ireland. Presenters on the day included Dr David Connolly, CEO IWEA, Marie Donnelly, Eamonn Confrey (DCAEE), Philip Newsome (DCCAE), Ciaran O'Brien (Brookfield Renewable)Angela Treanor (Elgin Energy) and David McAuley (Host in Ireland / Bitpower).
