Course Overview

Overview of technologies (Vehicles and charging infrastructure), forecast growth and demand on system, new market opportunities, and consumer behaviour. 

This course is designed as an introductory level to the field of EV and this fast moving sector.

LIT and TEA pride themselves on provision of education and training programmes using an Active Learning approach. This will be used in this course where the trainer will introduce a topic and where relevant participants will complete an exercise to demonstrate their understanding of that topic.

Case Studies and examples for relevant Irish and EU projects will also be used. Relevant information from key national stakeholders in the market in Ireland e.g. ESB Networks, Electric Ireland, Equipment suppliers will be integrated into the programme, along with key policy documents and initiatives.

Where possible LIT/TEA likes to receive a profile of participants knowledge of the relevant subject area prior to the training event so that relevant customisation and preparation can be completed.

Course Objectives

The objective of this course is to give the participants a clear understanding of the latest EV technology, future demand of electric cars and barriers in relation to charging infrastructure.

Following completion of this programme participants will;

  • Have a good understanding of the latest advances in electric vehicles and government policy
  • Have sufficient knowledge to perform a cost benefit analysis of purchasing an EV
  • Understand emerging trends in the sector and where to seek further information

Course Trainers

Alan Jackson: joined the Tipperary Energy Agency in June 2016. His responsibilities include co-ordination of the Better Energy Communities Scheme and mentoring community energy projects.
He has also worked on feasibility studies for renewable energy projects including financing modelling. (PV, Wind, Hydro, Anaerobic Digestion, Biomass).
More recently Alan has been driving the preparation of the Covenant of Mayors Sustainable Energy Action Plan for Tipperary. Alan has over 13 years’ experience and has worked as a Project Engineer and Structural Design Engineer on various pre cast concrete projects including the redevelopment of Thomond Park.
Alan is a chartered Engineer and holds an honours degree in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering from Trinity College, degree in Management and a Master’s degree in Sustainable Energy and Green Technology from U.C.D. Alan has worked for Banagher Concrete, Tipperary County Council and Eirgrid.
